“I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before Me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none. So I will pour out My wrath on them and consume them with My fiery anger, bringing down on their own heads all they have done, declares the Sovereign Lord.”
(Ezekiel 22: 30-31)
Researchers for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority found over 200 dead crows near greater Boston recently, and there was concern that they may have died from Avian Flu. A Bird Pathologist examined the remains of all the crows, and, to everyone’s relief, confirmed the problem was definitely NOT Avian Flu. The cause of death appeared to be vehicular impacts.
However, during the detailed analysis it was noted that varying colors of paints appeared on the bird’s beaks and claws. By analyzing these paint residues it was determined that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with trucks, while only 2% were killed by an impact with a car. MTA then hired an Ornithological Behaviorist to determine if there was a cause for the disproportionate percentages of truck kills versus car kills.
He very quickly concluded the cause: When crows eat road kill, they always have a look-out crow in a nearby tree to warn of impending danger. They discovered that while all the crows could shout “Cah!” not a single one could shout “Truck!”
OK. OK. Maybe not the funniest of jokes. But then, what it makes me think of is not all that funny either. What it makes me think of is the Christian church in America today. The church that will not take a stand for the authority of Scripture or the Lordship of Jesus Christ. The church that doesn’t want to offend anyone by calling a sin a sin. The church that says there is no hell and everyone will go to heaven because a truly loving God couldn’t and wouldn’t condemn anyone to such a place as that. The church that chooses compromise and conformity with the world over obedience and faithfulness to the One True God.
You see, in that church, there’s no one in the tree shouting ‘Truck,’ and there’s no one standing “in the gap on behalf of the land so God will not have to destroy it.” But that is exactly what God expects of His Church. And you don’t have to take my word for it. Take His: “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing, and perfect will.” (Romans 12: 2)
So, what’s a true believer to do? Glad you asked! “Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.” (2 Timothy 4: 2-5)
